Microsoft Adds Bing AI to Windows 11, Expanding Access Further

The AI, which is built on Bing search and software from OpenAI, aims to completely change how we use computers.

The tech giant is continuing to support the emerging artificial intelligence technology it originally unveiled earlier this month by including Bing AI in a free update for the Windows 11 operating system that runs desktop and laptop PCs, Microsoft stated on Tuesday.

The updated functions will make Bing AI accessible by placing it in the bottom menu bar of Windows machines. After updating their machines, users who already have access to the new Bing AI can start using it in Windows, according to Microsoft. Bing AI users who don't yet have access must still register in order to be added to the wait list.

In a blog post praising the new technology, Panos Panay, Microsoft's chief product officer, said that "the Windows PC has never been more vital in our daily lives." This is especially true as we approach the next generation of computing, which will be characterised by the widespread use of AI. "Search, conversation, and creativity are entering a new era, and with the release of the new Bing and Edge, you now have your very own online copilot."

Microsoft has quickly incorporated Bing AI into its Edge browser, Skype chat programme, and Windows software before making the decision to deploy the technology to its Windows software. Microsoft's technology blends the company's less well-known Bing search engine with innovation from startup OpenAI, whose ChatGPT responds to requests for everything from writing poems to assisting with coding to simple math problems like determining how many bags can fit in a car.

Although the tech giant has been praised for the skills of its Bing AI, it has also come under fire for the strange advice the system has given, such as instructing a New York Times columnist to end his marriage and demanding an apology from a Reddit user over whether it is 2022 or 2023. Some people are concerned that the technology isn't ready for prime time as a result of the reports.

Microsoft replied by limiting the number of chats users may have with the beta version of its Bing AI, and it also started experimenting with various "tone" personalities for responses that were either more accurate or more original.

Technology to connect Apple devices to Windows was also a feature of the new version of Windows 11 that Microsoft unveiled on Tuesday. This technology enables iPhones to share text messages, phone calls, and app notifications with Windows PCs. Microsoft claimed the capability is now being made available to a "limited percentage" of testers and would eventually be expanded.
