Elon Musk claims that Twitter will offer a free tier of API access, but with a catch.

Elon Musk announced that Twitter will continue to give good content-producing bots unfettered API access, despite initial reservations.

As the CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk has made a number of terrible decisions, but he has also changed his mind about the majority of them. He also keeps attempting things even when they seem to have no prospect of success, but one thing is for sure: he does not view his earlier experiences as being conclusive.

The elimination of free access to its API (application programming interface), which has an impact on many network-wide bots, is Twitter's most recent attempt to earn income for the corporation. The platform revealed on Thursday that it would start charging for access to its API on February 9. At the time, Musk said that "bot fraudsters and opinion manipulators" have in the past "abused severely" the open access.

After that, Elon Musk posted a message on Twitter assuring followers that they could still access free APIs with a catch.

Elon Musk has announced that Twitter will keep giving free API access to "bots delivering useful content" in spite of initial reservations. When Twitter recently decided to charge all API access, this was initially anticipated to be a big loss.

Although it's unclear what "excellent content" is at the moment, Musk did say when the free tier was removed that it was being abused and wasn't helping the platform succeed.

He stated that "API access with ID verification will considerably clean things up" for just $100 per month.

Musk's intended move might be a lifesaver for well-known, open-source Twitter bots. Some of these bots said they would be switching to Mastodon when Twitter announced it would restrict free API access
