All Quiet on the Western Front, among other films, helped Netflix win six Oscars today, besting all other streaming services. Apple TV+ received just one prize. Everything, Everywhere All at Once (A24), which won no fewer than seven trophies, including three of the four acting awards, Best Director, and Best Picture, nonetheless, was the highlight of the night.
All Quiet on the Western Front, a German-language adaptation of the well-known World War I novel, earned Oscars for Best International Feature, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and, yes, Best Original Score (despite concerns from certain critics regarding said music).
In addition, Netflix won the Best Animated Feature award for Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, which is a significant accomplishment in light of the competition from well-known production companies like DreamWorks, Sony Pictures, and Pixar. With The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse, Apple TV+ made it a streaming animation sweep by taking home the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film.
The majority of the major Oscars went to Everything Everwhere All at Once, despite its early 2022 release hurting its chances. Michelle Yeoh won Best Actress, Ke Huy Quan won Best Supporting Actor, Jamie Lee Curtis won Best Supporting Actress, the Daniels won Best Director, and the film won Best Picture. Among the most moving moments of the evening were Michelle Yeoh's and Ke Huy Quan's speeches. Michelle Yeoh was the first Asian woman to win Best Actress. This is a light of hope and opportunity for all the little children watching tonight that like me, she remarked on stage.
