Known Apple analyst Ming-Chu Kuo predicts that the company would introduce the 7-inch HomePod in the first half of 2024. The display, which a Chinese supplier named Tianma will produce, "may allow for closer hardware interaction with Apple's other products. " According to him, that represents a "major shift in the company's smart home strategy."
According to earlier reports by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the company is creating a kitchen accessory that combines an iPad and a speaker. Kuo's prediction corroborates these earlier reports. Earlier last January, Gurman reaffirmed that Apple is developing a number of smart home products to compete with Google and Amazon's selections. One of the things it's allegedly developing is a budget iPad with video chat capabilities and the ability to control other IoT devices, including lighting and thermostats. It is unknown if it would also be the display that the HomePod would include.
Apple will now be able to directly compete with Google's Nest Hub and Amazon's Echo Show models by releasing a speaker with a smart display. When it comes to smart home gadgets, Apple lags behind its competitors. For instance, its smart speaker was released years after the Echo. Bloomberg claimed that this was the case back in 2017 because Apple officials struggled to understand how it would integrate into their product ecosystem.
