A New Apple Short Video Illustrates The Daily Effects Of Accessible Technology

It's challenging to convey the crucial role that accessible technology plays in the daily lives of its users, but Apple's recently released short video, The Greatest, makes a valiant effort.

People with impairments who regularly utilise technology like smartphones, watches, and tablets for purposes other than making calls and browsing the internet are featured in and created the video. The two-minute video is also a great breakdown of the limitless potential of accessible technologies, as well as Apple's commitment to making its own products usable for everyone. It highlights features like the iPhone's Assistive Touch and Door Detection, the Apple Watches' Sound Recognition notifications, and Speak Selection for iPad users.

Viewers see a day in the life of seven Apple customers using a variety of Apple products and accessible system settings to be "their greatest," while the creative project was overseen behind the scenes by a group of individuals with disabilities. This even applies to the composers of the movie's soundtrack, including pianist Matthew Whitaker and producer Cola Boyy (you can hear them creating the song at the 45-second mark) (viewers can watch him go from dressing room to stage throughout the film).

To address the requirements of viewers who are blind or have low vision, Apple also published an audio-described version of the movie.

All of this was completed in advance of the International Day of People with Disabilities on December 3, a day set aside by the UN to promote disability inclusion and awareness.
